Vanity Fare

While we were home for the holidays we thought we’d try a little something special.  Friday’s episode was a Strange Love Live short (9 minutes) called Behind the Mic.  Next week we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled insanity… I promise.

If you’d rather just listen to the audio cast (which won’t make as much sense in this case) feel free:

Picturing Rick: A Review of 2008 with the Silicon Florist

On the heels of the SNOWPOCALYPSE just as the mighty THAWNAMI of 2008 began, we sat down in our studio to record the year end review with Rick Turoczy of the Silicon Florist.  But woe is me, alas and alack there was no Rick in sight.  Things were still too frozen and slippery for our guest to reach us on that dark and chilly night.

So we improvised.

Join us with Skyped in guest Rick as we chat about the big happenings of the Portland Tech scene in 2008 and then share our thoughts on the year to come.

Join us Friday December 26th at 10 PM for a very special year end review with the Silicon Florist, Rick Turoczy.  Settle in somewhere warm and tune in on mogulus for our last show of the year and hear our take on what happened in 2008 and what may be coming up in Portland for 2009.

Merry Christmas & A Happy SLL Episode…

Join us tonight at 10 pm on Mogulus with special guest Craig Schwartz from toonlet.

Blogging with Dieselboi… and beer

On Friday night’s episode of SLL something amazing was accomplished.  I tried more beer in one night than I have in my entire life.  I am not a beer girl, but that didn’t stop me from inviting Portland Blogger and Home Brewer Dieselboi of OurPDX Network to join us.  When he showed up 30 minutes before show time he was weighed down by a box full of brews and tasting cups ready to share what he had made and some of the knowledge he’s accumulated over the years.  Knowledge of blogging and brewing.

Listen to the 30 minute Tech edition to find out how he got involved (and stayed involved) with the Portland blogging scene and let him tell you a bit about beer in general and one of the IPA’s he made in specific.

SLL Episode 63: Blogger Dieselboi of OurPDX.net

And then we have the NSFW afterhours that finds us tasting several more beers with Dieselboi and our studio audience, Betsy, Aaron, MediaChick & WiazardBoots.  After chatting about blogging and Portland a bit and tasting even more beer we cap the whole thing off by killing the classic song Frosty the Snow Man… sometimes it’s hard to admit you don’t know all the words.

Join us Friday December 19th at 10 PM with guest Craig Schwartz of Toonlet. If you’ve never used Toonlet you’re probably living under a rock, it’s a favorite of the whole Kaos family (especially my dad). We were lucky enough to have Craig on the show via skype once before, so we’re really excited to get him into the studio and onto the couch for a full episode and afterhours.  I have so many things to ask him…

You may have noticed I didn’t mention that you can watch us live on ustream at 10 PM… Well that’s because we’re moving away from ustream to a place that hopefully will be a happier home for us.  Please join us live at 10 PM on Mogulus.  We’re just settling in over there so if you’ve been with us for a while let us know how it compares to the streaming quality we had in the past.

Strange Love Live on location

Last Friday night we did things a little bit different.  We packed up all our gear, left the comfort of our little studio and headed to Vidoop in downtown Portland for a little party to celebrate Cyborg Camp.  The party was, I think, a big success and a good time was had by all, and that’s largely due to the awesome party planning skills of Nate Angell.

During the “Tech Edition” we were lucky enough to talk to Amber Case who instrumented the whole shebang.  We kept her around during Afterhours and then brought on Cyborg Camp Speakers Bill DeRouchey, Lia Hollander and Ward Cunningham.  We also snatched up a few moments with  Bram Pitoyo, the man behind @cyborgcamp on twitter.  As if that wasn’t enough fun to pack into an episode of SLL we managed to lure Will Norris, Alain Bloch and Scott Kveton onto the couch as well.

There’s one last person I want to call attention to before you listen to the latest episode.  He wasn’t a guest on the show but I assure you the Cyborg Camp Pre-Party episode would not have been possible without the talents of Joe Christensen of Blaze Streaming Media.  Not only was he there every step of the way with Dr Normal to get stuff up two flights of stairs and set up, he also brought a brand new level of video delight to the show with 3 camera angles.  If you want to watch the video you can see it on our ustream channel.

SLL Episode 62: Afterhours at the Cyborg Camp Pre-Party!

On a side note, I have to show you my favorite image from the episode/ party.  Our fab guest Amber Case took it and I really think it speaks for it’s self.

Join us Friday December 12th at 10 PM on ustream with guest dieselboi who’s going to teach us a thing or 10 about beer, and bring in some of his own home brew!  Once we’ve imbibed a bit and moved on to Afterhous I’ll be sure to ask him about neon, blogging and the city we all love, Portland.

Ho Ho Ho Holidays & Guest Will Radik

Settle in around the fire everyone and I’ll tell you a story.  A tale of two people who started a podcast just about a year ago with a silly little song contest.  Dr. Normal lured me into our basement studio to record a short audio clip announcing our song contest (which was being held on my blog), and then sprang on me that we were doing a podcast.  After the contest was over and done with we took a little break, but it was only a matter of months before we were recording a show every week like clock work and now Strange Love Live is a huge part of our life together.

Okay, sappy paragraph is over, now onto the 2nd annual Kaos Holiday Song Contest.  We’ll have a post up later this week to fill in all the details, but the deadline for submissions is Friday December 12th at midnight. Email submissions to strangelovelive @ gmail.com with Holiday Song Contest as the subject. Judging will occur in the days that follow and we’ll announce the winners of both categories (Naughty and Nice) on Friday December 19th.

Take a listen to this very short episode to hear the tune for this year’s Holiday Song contest and to get a little info on what to do with it.

SLL Episode 59: Kaos Holiday Song Contest

With all the formalities out of the way, we kicked back with guest and fellow Portland Podcaster Will Radik.   We had some rum, we decorated a tree and he and I wore a skimpy Santa shirt.  Good times were had as we brought an official start to the holiday season in our home, talked about his show, photographs and the blurry fuzzy creature that has been roaming his home chewing on things.  Join us and listen in on this NSFW Afterhours episode.

Marshall + RWW + Manchego = Pegasusususes

Friday night we holed up in the studio with guest Marshall Kirkpatrick of Read Write Web and a stellar studio audience: the Silicon Florist himself, our chat mistress MediaChick and Jason Smith (I will never call you Ryan again, I swear).

We started with this week’s tech episode getting to know ReadWriteWeb a little better, chatted about Job Wire, blogging and then ventured into the land of RSS feeds.  Take a listen.

Marshall Kirkpatrick of ReadWriteWeb

With the arrival of afterhours we all kicked back a little more, grabbed another drink, discussed Unicorns, Pegasus and other mythological creatures like the Paid Blogger, Friend Feed Snobs and glitch free Podcast Streaming.

*Bonus: around 14 minutes into this episode you can check out what happens behind the scenes at Strange Love Live when the live feed dies.

Afterhours with Marshall Kirkpatrick

(for anyone wondering, Pegasus is both the plural and singular form of the word)

Join us Friday November 28th at 10 PM on ustream to kick off the holiday season with the 2nd annual Kaos Holiday song contest.  But since no one really needs to  hear what happens when Dr. Normal and I are left alone with the microphones for a couple of hours we’ll have Will Radik in the studio as our special guest.  Between his podcasting, sound design, photographs and other geekery we’re sure to run out of time before we run out of topics.

Bancroft, Josh Bancroft…

It was a long week here in the house of Strange Love Live as Cami fretted about her presentation at Ignite Portland 4 and Dr Normal Stage Mothered her within an inch of her life.  When it was all said and done, when the house lights were down, every last attendee was finally home and in bed and the Bagdad was back to it’s regularly scheduled happenings we thought it would be a good idea to shoot for a little recap of the good time that was Ignite Portland 4.  Josh Bancroft seemed like the go to guy for that recap since he was not only one of the organizers, but also took the stage for a talk.  Take a listen:

Strange Love Live Episode 55 - Ignite Portland with Josh Bancroft

But we couldn’t stop there… I had to ask, I had to know… Why Josh, why bright orange Crocs everywhere you go?  The answer to that pressing question and so much more on the most recent episode of NSFW Strange Love Afterhours!

Join us Friday November 21st at 10 PM with guest Marshall Kirkpatrick of ReadWriteWeb.  Have no doubt that I’ll ask him several remedial questions on various topics and then ask him to repeat himself as I take notes and try to learn some very important things…
